GLOBAL ECOTOURISM CONFERENCE 2007 (GEC 07) CONCLUDED SUCESSFULLY
Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation is happy to record that the GEC 07 has concluded successfully in Oslo, Norway, on the 16th May, 2007,  with very positive outcomes. The conference was attended by over 460 participants from around 70 countries. Sri Lanka was represented by Palitha Gurusinghe, President, Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation, the pioneer national ecotourism organization in Sri Lanka. The following national and regional ecotourism associations were represented at the conference:
Association of Ecotourism in Romania, Belarusian Ecotourism Association, CANAECO, EcoBrasil, Ecotourism Australia, Ecotourisme France, Ecotourism Kenya, Ecotourism Laos, Ecotourism Norway, Estonian Ecotourism Association, Japan Ecolodge Association, Japan Ecotourism Society, Kamchatka Ecotourism Society, Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation, Swedish Ecotourism Society
 On Monday, May 14, 2007, TIES Board and staff hosted a special-interest meeting for representatives of national and regional ecotourism associations and those who are interested in establishing ecotourism associations. Continuing on the discussion at the preparatory meeting for ecotourism associations in Townsville, Australia (November 2006), we discussed the challenges and issues facing associations, ways to strengthen our international network, and TIES’ role in serving the national and regional ecotourism associations.

Sri Lanka media has given a wide publicity to the GEC 07 and the SLEF. The reputed leading news papers in Sri Lanka such as ‘The Sunday Times’ , ‘The Daily Mirror’ ‘Sunday Observer’, ‘The Daily News’ has carried news and pictures related to the GEC 07, SLEF and Ecotourism in Sri Lanka.

The Global Ecotourism Conference 2007was held from 14-16th May, 2007 at the Hollmenkollan Park Reica Hotel in Oslo, Norway. It was concluded successfully with very positive outcomes. The conference was attended by over 460 participants from around 70 countries, and the following national and regional ecotourism associations were represented at the conference.
