Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation (SLEF) promotes community based tourism at the 'Deyata Kirula' National Development Exhibition - 2008
SLEF has been assigned by the Ministry of Tourism, Sri Lanka, to promote Community Based Tourism and Ecotourism at the recently concluded 'Deyata Kiruala' Exhibition, held at BMICH. The SLEF promoted Community Based Tourism at the event in association with the Sewalanka Foundation, one of the prominent national NGOs of Sri Lanka, dedicated to promote 'community development' of Sri Lanka.
SLEF/Sewalanka jointly promoted community based tourism projects located in different parts of Sri Lanka including Arugambay, Kandy, Kalutara, Sinharaja Rainforest, Ranpathwila, Madhuganga, Kudimbigala-(Panma) etc. The other tourism institutions taken part at the exhibition were, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Sri Lanka Institue of Tourism and Hotel Management, Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, Aitken Spence Hotel managements (PVT) Ltd, Keels Travel Managemets (PVT) ltd, Lanka Sportsrizen, Jetwing and Hettigoda Group. Association of Small and Medium Enterprises in Tourism Sri Lanka (ASMET) also was promoted by SLEF at its stall.
SLEF/SLF stall was visited by many rural folk came from far away villages in Sri Lanka as it has given prominence to the concept of 'Village Based Tourism Activities' and opportunity to learn Sri Lanka Tourism at grass root level. Many visitors admired the efforts taken by Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation and Sewalanka Foundation, in symbolizing genuine community based tourism and ecotourism at a national event.
