There are several nature routes you can take for a
bird watching tour in Sri Lanka.


Around Colombo and Airport
 
MUTHURAJAWELA
Closer to the Airport Muthurajawela Birds Sanctuary Suitable for an stop over excursion. You can also vist muthurajawela at the end of your bird watching tour or as a short one day excursion from the Airport or Colombo.

 
BELLANVILA
Situated Just south of Colombo, Bellanwila can be visited at the start or end of your tour.

NORTH ROUTE
If you go north you find the sacred city of Dambulla, Minneriya, Kandalalama, Sigiriya, Ritigala  bird watching locations. From Dambulla you can go south to reach Udawatta Kale, Kandy. Starting from Kandy you have options to go west or southwards or east bird watching location. If you go further east from Kandy you encounter minipe, wasgammuwa, Randenigala. Going South You can reach hortan plains, Kitulgala or Sinharaja. Further south you can reach Yala, Bundala and Kalamatiya in the south coast.

EAST ROUTE
You can start your tour by visiting Sinharaja Rain Forest the Natural World Heritage of Sri Lanka. From there you can proceed north to Kitulgala via bodhinagala or to Yala by south via Uda walawe or go north east to visit Horton Plains.

Following are suggested routes that will cover most important Bird habitats of Sri Lanka.

Airport, Colombo, Bellanvila/Attidiya, Kandalama, Dambulla, Minneriya, Kandy, Nuwaraeliya, Hakgala Botanical garden, Nuwaraeliya Victoria Park, Horton Plains, Uda walawe, Handapangala, Tissamaharamaya, Yala,Bundala, Kalamatiya,Sinharaja Rain Forest, Bodhinagala, Kitulgala, Muturajawela and back to Airport
