Negombo, Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's Negombo, originally a charming fishing town about 6km from [Colombo's] Bandaranaike International Airport, Negombo has an interesting beachfront.

The main town has several buildings dating back to its Dutch and Portuguese Colonial era. The lagoon gives up a rich harvest of lobsters , crabs and prawns. The open air fish auctions on the beach are a daily occurrence and well worth a look.

As independent travellers we left Colombo after just 9 days into our planned 6 month stay as a result of a feeling of insecurity, however we are sure that 'package tour' travellers to tourist resorts will probably enjoy a worry free holiday.
